Crikey…I thought the only Imeldette to vote NO was my nervy renegade - the beautiful and funny K of K-Line. Not the case! 42.6% of you voted to deny Imelda these Hetty Rose re-cycled treats. Luckily, 57.4% of you voted that (after months of no shoes) Imelda should buy. Thanks to everyone who votedxxxx
Ever had an out of body experience? Imelda did when she stumbled across these gruesome knitted slouchy men’s nasties! I’m not for one second advocating that you vote YES, rather, (and this is a first – but it shouldn’t be too out of character, after all I am the despotic Queen of Shoes) that you send Giorgio ‘The Crypt Keeper’ Armani a message - NO MEANS NO! Seriously, Giorgio ‘stop the rot’.
While I’m still on a rant let me turn my attention to the cost of postage. Last week I got the shock of my life when I tried to mail two magazines to the USA and was going to be charged the princely sum of $47…Yes, $47 to post TWO magazines! It’s a bloody national disgrace!
It seems that these crippling costs are a global phenomenon because the winner of Imelda’s $100 Wittner voucher, the lovely White Writing, has sadly declined her prize because of similar hidden costs.
Originally it was a $70 delivery charge that put the kibosh on WW’s prize. Not wanting to deny any Imeldette the joy of new shoes, I spoke to my friends at Wittner and they graciously agreed to absorb the postage charge. Everything was hunky dory right? Wrong! Because the charges just shifted from delivery to ‘import tax’ and ‘bank transfer fees’ - leaving White Writing out of pocket to the tune of £90. WTF.
So the $100 voucher is up for grabs again, but this time it’s only open to Australian residents. The same rules apply, to enter post a comment and all Australian comments will go into my magical barrel with the winner drawn Saturday 28th of June.

LOL those boots are soooo wrong in soooo many ways!! Slouchy, sparkly, knitted men's boots....seriously?
It's a shame that White Writing missed out on the voucher, I often have to deal with postage issues myself. Good luck to the Australian entrants!

How terrible for poor Miss W. I know she was so thrilled to win.
(And thank you, IM, for your lovely mention!)

They are crazy postage costs! I ordered myself a little somthing from bluefly, and the $65 postage was steep, but it did arrive in 3 days, which is faster than Australia post!!! I'm still waiting on a parcel from Sydney...
Wittner sell some lovely boots...and I need another pair of boots for winter...hehe. You can never have too many shoes!

Shocking about the postage. Have you no power over this, Imelda? There was a time when you could have had people executed for such impudence.
And the "shoes" are an insult, agreed.

Danz - It was such a shock and i was totally bummed that WW couldn't collect her prize!
K-Line - dancing nude in heels how could I not give you a 'shout out'
mica - your in the running!
SW - times, how they change! Yes, I long for the days when Imelda jump to the front of the line with the wave of a semi automatic weapon!

You're going to have to tighten your belt Imelda. No more potty breaks for your serfs, for one.

Hey, poor White Writing. That is some crazy ass postage costs. Posting to Australia and from Australia is more expensive than any other country apparently. I had some 1st hand experience with this when I went to post my family some Christmas pressies from Japan. The postage was a crazy $100, but the things I bought were cheap from a 100yen shop (everything is 100Yen which is $1AUD) so it was totally not worth it. My family only received e-Christmas-cards. Lol.
Oh and I kinda like the knitted glittery boots, but I'm weird.

Immie, sometimes you can get a cheaper rate for print publications if you wrap them with the ends sticking out. Ask at the post shop.
As for the USA and tax. That is why I buy all my autism kit from Aus. No taxes. The only way to beat it is to have it wrapped as a gift and sent from a home address to a home address.
I do the same when ordering new --- boots (I will not speak the name) and my sisters act as couriers!
The slouchy boots remind me of Liv's (ref Siena Miller)
xx

That is pure robbery! I just ordered three pairs of shoes from the States and the postage is only costing me about $30 AUD - so how does that work? For 90 pounds I'd want them hand delivered by Vestal Virgins on a waxing moon cycle.

Expensive postage is a bitch!!
On the plus side I like being called WW, it reminds me of Wonder Woman!

Oh my gosh, crazy prices!!!
Posted by: winnie | June 24, 2008 at 08:33 AM
There is something "Michael Jackson-y" about those Armani things... and not in the good way.
Import taxes are the devils handy work, unfortunately I found out the hard way...

Those glitter knitted ugg boot things are amazingly scary, how did you find these Imelda Matt? Postage is insane, it seems to be going up in price all of the time, maybe it is just in my mind, but reading your post, maybe it is! $47 is crazy! Surely there must be another way?!
Posted by: Rachel | June 24, 2008 at 09:11 AM
enc - same for the brand name rice!
H - the flip side is you're now in the running..:)
Hammie - I don't like the idea of posting magazines in torn wrapping...I'm not a gypsy!
SKM - I'd like everything delivered by Vestal Virgins..I'll look into it!
Miss White - I didn't think of that but I like it!
Winnie - crazy times!
VV - no good comes from anything Michael Jackson like!
Rachel - Imelda has her ways...Yes the other way was to post by sea and that takes 3 months.

I'm so surprised the No almost won with the japanese shoes!!
Those boots are weird, they remind me some kind of shoes from the Midle Age.
I'm sorry for White Writing, if it was me I would be devastated, needing my salts...
Those were a robery, unfortunatly I know the costs of living in a island...
Good luck Australian bloggers!

I just found your blog through Style On Track, and I must say I've been enjoying browsing! Although this particular pair of shoes are pretty ugly. Sparkly!
I love some of Wittner's shoes this season too, so thought I'd enter your competition! I've already splurged on the "Cindy" boots, and am totally in lvoe with the "Jezebels" - they remind me of Rumi from Fashion Toast for some reason.

The cost of international postage is ridiculous!
