Imelda’s Bible clearly states that the four horsemen of the apocalypse will ride into Armageddon wearing a sneaker/clog/platform shoe….of course I wasn’t expecting the first sign of Armageddon to present itself at the Galliano show.
Next week The Holy Sea washes into Sydney for World Youth Day and Imelda’s throwing a beer and cabana night for the Pontiff. Providing I can keep him out of the liquor cabinet I will pose the theological question ‘Is John Galliano the cobbler to the Anti Christ or is he merely the portal that allows El Diablo to conduct his diabolical dealings?’
I’m on the verge of an ecclesiastical fit with such worry.
While Yum Yum repaints my commemorative Stations of the Cross nails lets have a look at the best and worst of Paris.

I particularly loved Gaultier, seems so artisanal or something and Lanvin too though it the footwear, as you mentioned, was not groundbreaking-ly original.

Gah...Lanvin high tops.... love them even though it's getting to be a bit of a cliche...
Posted by: susie_bubble | July 04, 2008 at 09:46 PM
DCB - Kenzo was on the money for me but I see your point, I'm having a renewed lover affair with JPG.
SB - the beaded number is tempting.

yeah, i have to second the gautier... those stripes are genius.
Posted by: lady coveted | July 04, 2008 at 10:46 PM
Goy vey. How can these designers do so very, very well by women, and so poorly with men?
Not everything, of course, but there's so much wacky stuff here, it can be difficult to find the good stuff!
(Gold pants count as good stuff!)

All I want are a few pairs of Lanvin sneakeres and Dior Homme sneakers lining my closet when I get back from my birthday break. Sigh, so dreamy. Or a boy in all Tom Ford with a hint of Lanvin/Dior Homme kicks. Is that too much to ask?! haha
Posted by: modelizer | July 05, 2008 at 02:46 AM
What do you think of male polish (did I just coin this term or am I only being wishful?)? I think those maniators and mandals would look infinitely better with a dash of color on all those pasty feet . . .
Posted by: Miss Cavendish | July 05, 2008 at 04:28 AM
LC - I need a pair of those tan 'born again' mandals
enc - mornin I'm not sure but I think it has something to do with women's styling influencing mens - yes gold pants are good!
Modelizer - let's see what we can do, shall we?
MC - Agreed, I hate seeing an unpolished foot on men.
Posted by: Imelda Matt | July 05, 2008 at 06:33 AM
If I was a boy I would definitely choose Lanvin.... ok as a girl I would choose Lanvin as well.
The Galliano shoes all like like what club kids wore in the 90's.
Posted by: Vain & Vapid | July 05, 2008 at 08:14 AM
The Galliano stuff was so preposterous that I had to copy several photos from style.com or whereever it was.
I love Dior Homme and I would like to see you my dear Imelda Matt in either the pink jacket or the gold trousers. Add a thin black leather tie and you will be my dreamboat even more than you are already.
Posted by: Sister Wolf | July 05, 2008 at 08:48 AM
V&V - OMG, you've just reminded me that I have something similar hiding in my wardrobe...stay tuned, I think I've just found tomorrow's post.
SW - I have a gold Comme suit, perhaps I could have the pants altered? I'd totally wear the pink jacket and the gold trousers...I'm that gauche!!!

A little late in the game, I second the motion to get some polish on those man toes. Or am I thirding the motion?
Thanks for the blogroll add, my dear, and the 4th of July well wishes! It's been a glorious, sunshiny day here in Mpls, and I even got some shopping in. Woot.
Posted by: Sal | July 05, 2008 at 10:53 AM
Thanks for the warning, what are these designers thinking? ... or smoking????
Posted by: Enkha X | July 05, 2008 at 04:49 PM
i really didnt like the sneakers at dior homme
Posted by: Prêt-à-Porter P | July 05, 2008 at 05:20 PM
Sal - god help me if I ever post pictures of my trotters without polish!!!!
Enkha - or shafting?
PPP - neither did I, too similar to last season.

I read the pontiff wears red shoes to represent all the blood of the martyrs.
The clothes and shoes and the colours and the creepy looking models tricked my brain into thinking we were strolling with Dante THROUGH HELL or maybe just a really weird sideshow. weird but psychedelically AWESOME. If only I had the guts to dress like a sideshow freak.

i love John Galliano's designs! His collections seem out there but when you look at them individual they are beautiful
Posted by: Tanya | July 05, 2008 at 09:03 PM
I am lost for words here. Lets just say that the Gallianos' have me reaching for the Bex to drown out the hoof beats.
Posted by: super kawaii mama | July 05, 2008 at 09:08 PM
MW - my despotic eye spots a poly/foam platform mid sole and when the flames start licking at their heels they'll be in some serious trouble.
Tanya - It's not the clothes I have the problem with, I'd wear nearly everything - it's the shoes!
SKM - rest up my pretty, it should all be ok come morning.
Posted by: Imelda Matt | July 05, 2008 at 10:39 PM
Galliano is a genius!
Posted by: kirafashion | July 05, 2008 at 11:27 PM
I'm not a fan of what Galliano did with his shoes. Platform?
OHHHH. Taser is a metaphor. Okay. I'm still getting used to your writing, haha. :]
Posted by: Secretista | July 06, 2008 at 02:10 AM
I like some of Lavin and I like Dior Homme, but I must agree with enc.
xxxx
Posted by: The Seeker | July 06, 2008 at 05:14 AM
hmm, per his last couture show, I'm going to say Portal to Hell, etc, and not an actual earthly manifestation of the Evil Lord himself.
And I'm stealing that striped Ann Dem. jacket from the boy's closet.
Posted by: fashionheral | July 06, 2008 at 06:12 AM
Kira - clearly no room for any further discussion.
Seeker - Yes gold pant are good stuff!
Fashionh - Just don't steal his mandals!
Posted by: Imelda Matt | July 06, 2008 at 07:18 AM
I'm feeling a bit nauseous, ask Yolanda to fetch my smelling salts.
Posted by: sourfruit | July 06, 2008 at 09:46 AM
Whoa. Some of these are a tad over the top. Dare I say we may need to accept limitations in the design of men's shoes?
Posted by: Psyche | July 06, 2008 at 10:06 AM
Those Kenzo lace up mandals are shockingly bad. I just don't understand.
Posted by: winnie | July 06, 2008 at 10:37 AM
You've made a Lady almost choke on her tea from laughing so hard Imelda.
You know I've been sceptical about this whole youth day gig but if the pope is going to spend it in your liquore cabinet then I might just come up and join you. Blessings!

someone please rip the gold pants off that dior homme model and hand them to me. he can keep the standard hightop shoes though.
Posted by: a dreamer | July 07, 2008 at 09:50 PM
Sourfruit - I'm afraid Aunt Pity-Pat has used them all.
P - where does it all end?
LM - The despotic Queen and Lady Melbourne perched in prime position for a Papal blessing, sounds like perfect. I know you have a snappy vintage lace veil that would be perfect...I'll bring the hip flask.
dreamer - and what of me and my desire for those gold pants?
Posted by: Imelda Matt | July 07, 2008 at 09:56 PM
Does anyone know where and how much I can get the Galliano platform shoes for?
