Don’t ever let anyone tell you that dancing for Jesus is safe. Remember Immaculata and her tumble into the ‘strategically placed baptismal font’? Unbeknownst to her a shard of marble pierced her leathery sun damaged behind and was slowly working it’s way to her heart. When the stabbing pains started she, unfortunately, rushed herself to hospital where doctors discovered ‘Imelda’s little helper’ just before it pierced her heart. So unfair?
I went to visit her this morning (chalk that up to Imelda’s good deed for the month) and like most old people she was complaining to anyone who’d listen. ‘What was the baptismal font doing underneath the stage?, the floor had been oiled…blah, blah, blah’ I’d like to think it was divine intervention. The Lord Almighty was telling Immaculata her ‘corri’ was stale and he preferred Imelda’s Krump for Khrist routine. I can’t help but think the Lord must still be watching over the Despotic Queen. How else does one explain my pre Christmas miracle, also known as Dutch design student M.VANDESTOUWE.
Highly influenced by the work of Dutch born furniture designer and architect, Gerrit Rieveld (famed for designing the red and blue chair in 1917), Maurice is in his third year of a Product design course at ArtEZ Academy specializing in Shoe Design.
Like Jelske, he’s been gifted with an eye for proportions and has successfully established a trademark aesthetic with his strong angular architectural heels, which at 13.5 cm aren’t for pussies. I’ve been mesmerized by his latex shoe with it’s wide top line and geisha-esque wooden forepart. Both the construction and his attention to detail are stunning and demonstrate great promise.
He’s currently finishing off his own collection while collaborating with a number of other design students. So getting more information has proven difficult. Although he doesn’t post daily I recommend you stop by his blog and be inspired by the art of making shoes at it purest form.

Much to my surprise I love the green glitter ones! *oooo shiny...*

The green glittery shoes are making me all giddy, my sun damaged and leathery little lizard feet are wriggling with pleasure at the thought of those sparkly treats!

They look so versatile and comfortable. Not usually the two words I look for in a shoe given that "comfortable" often spells death, but in this case it is a very good thing. I'm feeling Blade Runner meets Wizard of Oz.

The glitter ones are mine. And yes the Aussie team can have the Celine ones then.

D - Yes sparkles, but I'm not sure they're Maurice's, I think they are but I couldn't be 100% certain.
Skye - hahaha, clearly you've been parked next to Immaculata's sun bed!
Mama - 13.5 cm heels would be what I expect you wear around to the Coles.

MDM - I think you'll need to wait in line but nudge-nudge- wink-wink, Imelda might be able to cut you a deal.

those green are gorgeous, I wouldn't wear them, but they are cool

Ooh the architectural designs make me drool...shoes are definitely meant to look like buildings. I like!

Aaaahhhhh, shoe design. I'm always fascinated and flabbergasted by it. Thanks for including the video and so many photos.

Krump for Khrist. HAAAAAAA HAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. I would give my milk teeth to see Imelda Marcos krumping (clown makeup and all!)
As far as Vandestouwe having an eye for proportions, perhaps he could take a look at my ass and give me some tips on balancing the load.

The heel reminds me so much of miu miu/prada from last season. The glittery green pair is omgz amazing and I hate all things that glitter like that. They just did it properly. Delicious.

I'd like to be the one person who doesn't want the green glitter ones. But I'm not.

All of his footwear is fantastic but I've also fallen under the spell of the green glitter ones...I'm a sucker for things that sparkle!

I must do some research on classes!
Posted by: Rebecca | August 14, 2008 at 09:34 AM
thank you!
the green glittery ones and the gray/blue above are for iniy sanchez (a dutch fashion designer). they are designed in co-operation with gent vranovci, rosemieke de hair (both accessory designers) and iniy sanchez herself.
i need to update my blog, already finished the mini collection at the moment i'm working on some ideas for my graduation collection (possibly heavily influenced by architectural structures :-D).
