Producers for the sequel of Sex & the City have reportedly
updated Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe with Louboutin but whispers have reached
Imelda’s (finely tuned) ears that LA based luxury footwear brand OMELLE are on
the verge of making their silver screen debut.
While one half of Omelle’s design team, and Imelda’s playa-playa
homegurrl Nicole LaFave, confirmed the brand had been approached by the movie’s 'people', she was quick to reply that 'nothing has been confirmed'.
The uber haute Omelle are no strangers to immense benefit$ of strategic
product placement. Within minutes of launching their debut collection, the
brand received valuable exposure when their boot (Cecilia) found its way onto
the trotters of tee-vee’s then ‘it’ gurl Serna van der Woodson. Say it with
me...‘cha-ching’
But LaFave was playing it cool, only going on the record to say “what a dream
this would be”
LaFave might be playing
possum but it’s the Despotic Queen’s opinion (thus da law) that the Producers
and Stylists for S&TC have a moral obligation to support emerging (US
based) footwear talent -'Think Global Act Local’. In case they need a gentle
reminder of just how incredibly talented these two designers are, Imelda’s got
the world exclusive preview of Omelle’s S/S 10 collection.
Titled "PLANES!
TRAINS! & AUTOMOBILES!", it sees Omelle introducing heel constructions
such as the Band & Ledge heels, taking inspiration from helicopters “you will
see sexy chopper blades mixed with jet engine python sandals” reports Omelle’s
aviatrix LaFave.
Old luggage tabs,
railroad tracks, conductor hats, dashed traffic lines on pavement and shifter
knobs in luxury automobiles are all key sources of inspiration in this
collection. I realize it sounds like a ramshackle collection of PR gobbledy
goop but as LaFave mentioned in our last interview she hordes “A LOT of reference material” and each and every
reference can be seen in the collection.
Because they present such a distinctive esthetic, Omelle has quickly been established as the ‘it’
(US based) luxury footwear brand to watch, all of which makes it hard for
Imelda to believe that they’re only presenting their THIRD collection.
The precision
tailoring might have mommy Imelda wetter than a snack cake but its Omelle’s use
of social media that really rings my liberty bell.
Recently Conde Nast
owned title FN asked US based ‘Vendors to Soundoff on
Using Social Networking’. While most respondents were left sounding somewhat
befuddled ‘can you repeat the question?’ LaFave left her competitors chocking
on her cyber dust with a comprehensive strategy.
Some
of my beloved Imeldettes may find the subject (of social media) dry but since I
first interviewed LaFave I’ve been watching with much interest to see how
Angelle and LaFave use social media as a business empire building tool.
The designers continue
to directly engage their end client via a series of pop-up concept stores and
shoe parties. LaFave revealed the brand has “events planned for Las
Vegas, Louisiana and Los Angeles for this holiday shopping season”
Despite the econo-misery ‘doors’
continue to open for Omelle, and from A/W 09/10 their collection will be
available from Bob Ellis Shoes, Madison in Beverly Hills & in Fred Segal
Santa Monica”
I know. I know. Back
to the shoes…
According to LaFave,
Omelle’s colour palette is “punchy and thirsty with some hints of gunmetal,
bumper and wooden accents. The playful mixture includes colors such as speed
yellow, black tire, tin snake, snake tread and vapour. The variety in surfaces
and textiles ranges from painted python, tree snake and conductor stripes (seer
sucker) stripes”
Angelle and LaFave have edited this collection (not that Imelda’s
suggesting their previous collections have been anything other than all
killer), with LaFave explaining S/S 10 is “much tighter, more focused” yet still the most perfectly crafted collection of shoes seen from any US based footwear brand...or so says Imelda.
I'm a big fan of Omelle. This summer collection is Deeee-lish! Expect to see at least one pair on my feet (and my blog).

These look interesting - last night I saw the Zandra Rhodes shoes which also appear in SATC2 - anything not in it - Primark, H&M perhaps.
