Just in case you’ve been interned in one of Imelda’s South East Asian
sweatshops, let me recap on Vivienne Westwood and her husband, menswear
designer Andreas Kronthaler. Despite being delightfully bonkers, the flame
minged cougar and her rustic husband always blow the hot winds of desire up my
skirt.
This season Kronthaler presented a collection of clashing prints, layering and the odd bodysuit. The inspiration for A/W09/10 - the pair’s gardener ‘Andy’.
While Andy would be delighted with the bleached leather workman’s boots, I suspect the Horticulturalist won’t be pruning the gardenias in Lanvin inspired hi-tops, classic two toned brogues or (the most covetous) almond toe monk straps in purple. An interesting aside, this is the 3rd season Kronthaler has presented THE SAME square toe last, so I’m not going to mention it.
I don’t know what’s been going on at Cavalli (and it’s best left that
way) but knitted Aztec print sneakers?!?!?!?!
I was expecting Raf Simons to complement the new rounded silhouette for
Jil Sander with a collection of classically tailored footwear and that’s
precisely what he delivered.
Despite only presenting 3 styles, the shoe of any real significance was the ‘origami inspired’ asymmetric toe. Simons has deftly adapted the toe shape from his SS09 women’s wear collection into a beautifully crafted shoe that will outlive his new silhouette – don’t be hatin’ on me!
I won’t deny Frida Giannini has a vision for the Gucci man, short
jackets, leopard spotted knits (my name is so written all over that), lurex and
fur, it’s just that was kind of like Hedi Slimane’s vision at Dior Homme - so
she kind of needs to give it back.
I will concede this was a vast improvement on the S/S 09 shamozzle and Mother’s petty pants did moisten after catching sight of the tri toned boot complete with tassel and pony trimming.
