As the entire world goes ga-ga
for Goldin’s spiked pumps, the Despotic Queen’s gone a little weak at the knees
for Eley Kishimoto.
Some time ago (over bucket
bongs and cream cheese on toast) Imelda’s good friend, The Likkle Girl, suggested
I take a closer look at what the British duo Wakako Kishimoto and Mark Eley were up to. I did and thankfully I’ve never looked back.
Because they produce such
fashion forward footwear the Imelda-rific Eley Kishimoto are one of the most
directional brands to show at London Fashion Week.
I was surprised (pleasantly so)
that helping the brand is Carrie Cooper’s (Beau Coops) former employer. As
reported (by Imelda), Cooper’s former employer owns the rights to produce
Kishimoto’s footwear. Not that this is of any major significance, as Kishimoto
are actively involved in the design process, which is evident when you analyse
the cohesive aesthetic the duo send down the catwalk.
The spat isn’t the newest trend
(Fendi, Narciso Rodriguez and Diesel all presented variations last A/W 09) but
Imelda’s panty girdle was Ioosened by how Kishimoto and Eley have juxtaposed
the masculine strapping (of the spat) against the classic round toe Mary Jane
silhouette in luxe suede.
The contrasting themes of
masculinity vs. femininity were also explored via their neutral toned platform
wedge sandals. The colour palette complemented the ultra femininity of the
brand’s apparel, while the thick (lattice like) strapping (replicated around the wedge) look like the sandals a modern Trojan warrioress would wear as marches off to war.
