Sydney’s in the middle of a ye
olde world pre global warming heat wave. With no breeze and the temperature
hitting 40 degrees celsius the Despotic Queen’s bunions are pulsating like hot
coals and after five hours of gawking at knits, layering, tweed, velvet,
poncho’s, 3 piece suits and the most fabulous leopard print socks…I’m spent!
After day one of the Paris collections the trends du jour were monk strap fastenings, boxing boots, loafers, moulded rubber soles, patent leather and exotic skins.
Kicking off the week was Gaspard Yurkievich. Not only has the Paris native lifted Imelda’s skirt, but Yurkievich presented his most accessible menswear collection to date. Purple snakeskin penny loafers, moulded sportive soles, olive patents and please-oh-please let’s not get started on the socks.
Quell Horror, Kayne’s collaboration with Louis Vuitton didn’t suck, but I’d suggest the Legal Dept at DC Skate take a closer look at the rappers ‘skate inspired’ sneakers.
Leaving Imelda clutching her pearls was Takahiro Miyashita's theatrical clog soled boxing boots and Yohji’s knitted boots. Dries was the height of winter chic with his collection of almond toe classics in black, brown and bronze patent.
